Adult and Teen Classes
Knitting 2 with Kim Van Rijn on Tuesdays, March 6 - May 1 (no class April 3) from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This class is for those who were in Kim’s recent learning to knit classes or for those who know the basics such as how to cast on stitches, knit, purl, and bind off. It’s a suitable class for those who learned to knit at some point but are rusty. In this series you will learn such basics as how to read a knitting pattern, and how to increase and decrease your stitches. You will learn some new stitches and you will actually make something! Bring your knitting supplies to the first class. Kim will provide a list of materials that you will need to purchase.

Join artist/musician Jonathan Seymour for this beginner/intermediate course on Thursdays, March 8 - April 12 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Jonathan will help you learn how to draw what you see. The class will start with some basic exercises then move onto still-life drawing and end with drawing the human face. We will supply the materials for the first class. You will then be given a supply list so you will have the tools to continue at home. Jonathan is a mixed media artist specializing in portraits. He attended the Art Institute of Boston and has taught drawing off and on since the mid 80s.

Learn fretting, picking techniques, an introduction to chords and begin to play a few songs too! Jonathan Seymour has played guitar most of his life and has been teaching for twenty of those. These are 1/2 hour, private lessons for students ages 12 - adult.

Join photographer, Michelle Waters, on Saturday, March 24, 1:00-4:00 p.m. for this one-day workshop. Learn how to add your art, text and photography to wood, fabric and paper with heat transfer medium, in a step-by-step, hands-on class. Use your own art for the class, or use provided samples to make gifts, personalized keepsakes and more.

Join Allen Armel on Tuesdays April 3 – May 8, 6:00-7:30 p.m. (6 weeks). If you’ve ever wanted to learn the keys to painting portraiture with watercolor this is the class for you. Let Allen help guide you towards producing excellent portraits and improve your skills in this challenging medium and subject. Basic skills and problem will be addressed and worked throughout the course. Teens and adults (beginner to intermediate).
Allen Armel is a recent graduate of Marshall University where he studied painting, religious studies, and philosophy. He is currently applying to Grad schools for painting.

"Mr. Potter" and resident potters will instruct you on the fine art of pottery on the wheel, Thursdays, April 5 - 26, 6:00-9:00 p.m. All materials of clay, glazes and kiln firing are included in the cost.

Join professional photographer Jill Kirtland on Mondays, April 9 - 30, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Learn all of the techniques professional photographers use to create beautiful photos shooting in manual mode on their DSLR camera. This course also covers lighting, composition, lenses and other gear. After this fun course you will be able to join the instructor’s Facebook group to receive continued coaching and resources. Bring DSLR camera with lens and memory card. (ages 16+)

Join Samantha Roberts on Thursdays, April 12 and 19, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Learn the basics that will enable you to start playing with watercolors on your own in no time. This two-class series is hands-on fun. Samantha will provide the materials but offer suggestions for what you might want to purchase to continue painting at home.

Join the members of the Knitters Guild on Sunday, April 15 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. You don't need needles to knit. What?! It's true! Members of the Knitters Guild will guide you through this relatively simple process that uses your arms and hands instead of needles. Please register in advance so we will have ample materials ready. There is no charge for this class but we request a donation on the day to cover time and materials. Teens and adults welcomed, children may attend with an adult.
Let’s take printmaking to the streets! Using traditional printmaking techniques, instructor Michelle Waters will help you transfer a part of downtown into wearable, usable art on Saturday, May 12, 1:00-4:00 p.m. We will provide a canvas tote, you may also choose to bring a plain t-shirt to print on. The first part of class will take place in the classroom, followed by on-site printing. In case of rain, printing will be moved inside the Art Center.
