Sign up now for Private Pottery with Judy Keith on Wednesday evenings. Judy will instruct adults and teens ages 16 and up in a private session in wheel throwing. Students will learn the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel, centering clay, opening up, raising the wall, and shaping a form. Beginner Pottery on the Wheel

This course is an introduction to "throwing" clay vessels on a pottery wheel. Students will learn to center clay, create cylinders and produce small functional forms like bowls, saucers, and mugs. Students will also learn foot trimming, handle making, very simple decorative carving (chattering and chipping), and glaze application.

Students will be asked to come in on their own time to glaze final projects. Class is for teens and adults. Each course is comprised of 4 classes meeting from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings.

Art is Life/Life is Art

Back for 2025! Individuals 55 and up can again stretch their artistic muscles in this non-threatening, non-judgmental environment. This series is geared for everyone, from those new to art to the art pros. If you took the class before, feel free to register again because this year brings new creative adventures.

Projects will include printmaking, pottery, painting, drawing, upcycling and more. Participants will receive some materials to take home so they can keep on creating after the class is over!

Classes will meet in two, six-week sessions. Select the session that best fits your schedule. Each session will have ten, two-hour class meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays new projects and techniques are introduced while Thursdays will be work days. The full schedule will be outlined in the first class meeting.

The culminating event will combine artwork created in both sessions in a gallery show at the PAC opening on June 13th!

Program costs are subsidized by grant funding from the WV Department of Arts, Culture and History.

Stained Glass Art

This 5 week class will introduce the tools and techniques of stained glass construction. Students will learn the Tiffany method, also called the copper foil method, to create a design that showcases the beauty of stained glass. Designs can be supplied, or students may wish to consult with the instructor about creating their own design. This class is open to students who are new to stained glass as well as those who have some previous experience. The cost of glass, foil, flux, solder and the use of equipment is included in the class fee.

Gelli Plate Printing Workshop

Teens and adults can join Jessie Siefert as she introduces four techniques for using the gel plate. This is a fun, fast and versatile medium for creating unique monoprints. Results are often unexpected, making this a creatively satisfying tool to start your artistic journey or add to your repertoire! All materials provided.

Laundry Line : April Showers bring May Flowers

The next watercolor creation in the Laundry Line series is Spring: "April Showers bring May Flowers." Tracy will instruct you to draw and watercolor your own 16x20 rainy day streetscape. Eryn will then show you how to create fantastic 3D fabric for your umbrella, your laundry line, two curtains and fill your flower shop with colorful fabric and button flowers. It will be finished with a mat and a frame. Please bring any food, drink, snacks or lunch that you would like!

Hand Building Pottery

Hand building pottery will cover pinch, soft slab and coil construction, covering step-by-step instruction. Glazing included, 4-6 projects will be completed during this class.

Art on the Island: Strawberry Fields

Come to our first AOTI of the season! We will be creating a mini shadowbox with a painting of a strawberry field with a gorgeous sunset sky and then add 3D wooden painted strawberries. It will be finished with plexi glass and a frame. Take the 11 am boat over and Tracy will meet you on the Island. The cost of your boat ticket is included in your price. Coffee Pot Painted Planter: Art in the Garden

This oversized bisque coffee mug is perfect to create on! Bring your own ideas or choose from provided sample ideas. Tracy will be available to assist and will have acrylics and paint markers available to make your perfect mug designs. Then choose a living mini plant to add! (Mugs are not food/drink safe.) Pop-art Pet Portraits

This is one of Tracy’s most popular classes! Come create a pop-art version of your favorite pet! We will use paint markers and acrylics to make our pets come to life! Art on the Island: My Bookshelf

Use markers and watercolors to make an adorable 6”x6” framed bookshelf painting, complete with your favorites (you choose your items: things like plants, a kitty, a globe, and of course add your favorite book titles.) Paper-Tube Pets for Adults/Teens

These cardboard kitties and puppies are so cute! We will use tubes and templates to make our favorite table sitting pets. We will decorate with acrylics and markers to add colors and details. Nail and String Art in the Garden

We will be making fun nail and string art by using copper nails and hammering them into a wooden base into the shape of our designs. Then we will use string to wrap the nails to create our beautiful patterns. You can do the puppy paw or bring your own printed or hand-drawn design. We will enjoy the summer breeze in our Garden for this class and please bring any food, drinks, or snacks that you would like.

Private Painting and Pottery Parties

The Parkersburg Art Center offers private painting or pottery parties. These are perfect for team building, a staff retreat, gatherings with friends, celebratory events, and birthdays. With a minimum of five participants, we can bring your creative event to life—just email info@parkersburgartcenter.org with your request. Please start making those plans AT LEAST three weeks in advance so we can schedule an instructor!

Most classes require a minimum of 4 students in order to run and/or have maximum number limits so… PLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE TO ENSURE THAT YOU CAN GET INTO THE CLASS YOU WANT.

Refund policy: A $5 online processing fee will be applied to all refunds. No refunds will be given 48 hours before the start of any class.
