Hannah & Bret

Hannah and Bret got married on October 12, 2019!

How did you meet?

We met in high school. I (Hannah) had a crush on Bret for many many years before he gave me a chance and we started dating our sophomore and senior years.

Tell us about the proposal

We love to ski and we go many times each winter.  We decided to take a weekend trip to the mountains to celebrate the anniversary of when we started dating. We had been skiing all morning and about to head for lunch when I asked for Bret to stop and take a picture of me on the side of the slopes. He pretended to be getting the perfect shot when he dropped to one knee and I said, “Yes!”

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?

Our faith and family are focal points in our relationship, so we knew we wanted to get married in a church and incorporate our closest family and friends into our ceremony. We also wanted to have our reception somewhere that was naturally beautiful but where we could add aspects to make it our own. We wanted an elegant but fun atmosphere which included greenery, roses, and pizza.

What made you choose the art center as your venue?

We originally looked at PAC as a potential venue because of the location in downtown Parkersburg. Market street has a sophisticated feel and is beautiful at night with Edison lightbulbs strung overhead. This beautiful street is best viewed from the ballroom on the top floor of the art center. The dance floor is placed in front of extraordinary floor to ceiling windows that provide a stunning view and a beautiful backdrop for dancing pictures. When we toured PAC, Lyndsay was the definition of wonderful. She showed us the venue providing us with ideas and possibilities, while also listening to our wants and ideas. She helped ease the stress of planning and was there to help every step of the way. PAC provided the full package when planning our big day and it did not disappoint.

What other vendors did you choose, and can you tell us a little about your experience?

For the ceremony flowers we chose Crown Florals and they were exceptional. After an initial consultation about our vision, we were given designs for each item along with the descriptions and estimates. We were then able to work together to make changes depending on how we liked each design. They were easy to work with, as well as affordable. The flowers were simply beautiful and everything we could’ve wished for.

Another vendor I used was Black Tie Affair- Events & Rentals for some of my reception decor. They had a lot to offer and their services range from minor to minimal involvement in the planning and production of your event. They provided me with one of my favorite decorations of the entire day which was ceiling greenery that contained lights, that spanned the entirety of the guest tables. It was stunning. I would highly recommend them for all aspect of your wedding and reception!

What is your favorite memory of you wedding day?

My favorite memory of my wedding day was the prayer said at the end of the ceremony. It was a beautiful experience to pray with my husband for the first time along with our closest family and friends.

Any last bits of advice?

My advice is to remember that the day is about you and your future spouse. You will have wished you would’ve done a million things or maybe wished you hadn’t, but in the end you were able to marry the love of your life and start your life together. Make sure to enjoy the planning and make decisions based on what will bring you joy! Also, choose your favorite food as dinner. You and your guests will love it, I promise!

Alexis & Ryan

Alexis and Ryan got married on May 20, 2017

How did you meet?

Oh, this is a funny one! When I went to WVU I joined this Facebook group called "WVU Textbooks Free and For Sale". So, people would post their books for sale or books they were in need of on the page. I posted in July 2017 that I was looking for a Psychology 241 book. I received a message from Ryan saying he had the book. We exchanged numbers, and I said I would get a hold of him when I returned to Morgantown in August. As a 20-year-old girl, I didn't quite leave it at that. I checked out his only public social media which was Twitter. I thought he was pretty cute, so I found his Instagram and followed him. We texted a little bit back and forth throughout the summer and decided we would meet up that first week of class. After going to my first day of class, I realized it was the wrong book. I let him know, but he asked me to lunch anyways. The rest is history! ❤

Tell us about the proposal…

On one of our first few dates, Ryan took me to the prettiest little pond out near Cooper's Rock. We spent the entire evening fishing and just enjoying the fall weather. I told Ryan that is where I just "knew" he was the one. Fast forward two and a half years later to February of 2016, and that is where he dropped down to one knee!

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?

I have always loved every shade of pink and anything that sparkles. I knew I wanted my wedding day to be no different! This is how I chose it to be bright and full of color with the perfect amount of glam.

What made you choose the Art Center as your venue?

My parents actually went to a reception at the Art Center a year before we got married. When I saw the pictures from their reception, I knew that is where we wanted to have ours. I love that there are different floors. We loved using the first floor during our cocktail hour while we got pictures taken. This gave our guests time to socialize while looking at local art since so many of our guests were from out of town. I personally loved the neutral colors upstairs. This allows for any color scheme to flow perfectly into the space. I also loved the wood floors for the dance floor and DJ space. One of my favorite touches is the "hidden" side entrance so our bridal party (and us!) could have a fun introduction. I wish we could re-live our reception over and over!

What other vendors did you choose and can you tell us a little about your experiences?

I can't say enough about ALL of the vendors we chose. They made our wedding day a breeze which is what every bride dreams of.

  • First Lutheran Church - It was extremely important to me that my husband and I got married in this church. This is where my dad grew up going to church and is where my grandparents still went to church. All of my cousins got married there, and I knew I wanted to as well. Pastor Ian Reid was so great to work with. He and Pastor Julius Lewis performed our ceremony. They made our guests feel welcome. They knew we wanted them to feel the presence of God and also share about our relationship. Who couldn't feel the holiness and sacredness of the Lord in a church with such a beautiful cross placed in the center of the church. We loved how regal and elegant the stained glass makes the church look. We got to meet with the organist to pick out the songs for every part of our ceremony. Many churches don't let you decorate too much, but First Lutheran let us add floral arrangements where needed. They also provided us with the candelabras and lit them prior to our wedding. This gave the wedding such an intimate feeling which was exactly what we wanted for us and our families/friends. Our ceremony was so important to us, and it was exactly how we wanted it to be.

  • J&J On The Avenue - I know that the beautiful and gifted Julie Morgan recently closed her successful business, but she and Beth were phenomenal. I had gotten every prom dress from J&J's and knew I had to get my wedding dress from there as well. After trying on a few dresses I really wasn't crazy about, Beth messaged me and said "I found your dress". And she was dead on! This dress was head to toe jewels and gems - which they knew was exactly what I wanted. It was like Christina Wu specifically made this gown for me, and I am so thankful J&J's ordered it just for me! Not only did they spoil me, but they also spoiled my mom, grandma, bridesmaids, and flower girl. They catered to my every request and helped me pick out the perfect gowns for each of these special women. What was above and beyond is that they allowed my bridal party to get ready in their shop the day of my wedding. Julie went out and got us all specially ordered drinks from Starbucks and Timbits. Beth zipped me up in my dress and made sure I looked perfect. I really don't know what I would have done without them!

  • Callie Lindsey Photography - Callie was AMAZING. She had such fun ideas, and she also let me send her all of my Pinterest ideas as well. Thank goodness she is patient because I sent her text after text of all of the things I wanted to be captured. She sent us an itenerary that we were able to send to our bridal party so everyone knew exactly where to be at what time. This was also important to provide to our other vendors so they could plan accordingly and all be on the same page. This was perfect because she and her assistant didn't miss a moment. I loved the previews Callie sent us the next day. They captured beautiful pictures of us, our friends, and our families which is something we will treasure for a lifetime. The best word to describe Callie is genuine. She takes such an honest interest in her couples and the details of their wedding day.

  • The RC Saylors Videography - Where do I even begin with Nate and Abby??? For some reason our wedding videography just kept getting put on the back-burner. On May 17 (mind you we got married on May 20) my mom and I were going through all of the "big" things we wanted to make sure we had. It was about 10:00 at night when we realized we had forgotten a videographer. I knew Callie Lindsey was the best in the photography business, so I reached out to her to see if she knew anyone in videography. She had a friend that got a hold of Nate and Abby. On May 18th we had a contract signed with them.  My husband hit it off with Nate and thought the drones were an awesome touch. I felt like we had been planning with them the whole time because they made our day go so smoothly. We couldn't have asked for better people to capture the live footage of our wedding day. Our wedding video and uncut footage is something we will treasure forever.

  • Parkersburg Art Center - Without the PAC my dream wedding wouldn't have felt complete. I absolutely LOVE that there are 3 floors that can be utilized. The downstairs area was perfect for our cocktail hour while we were getting pictures done. It was nice that our guests could take a look at the local art and walk around instead of just sitting and waiting. We didn't use the second floor too much, but it was nice to have that option if we chose to. My favorite part was the ballroom by far. I love the neutral tones of the upstairs so it can work with any color scheme. I loved working with Lyndsay because she was able to give me ideas of how to set up the tables for our guests and also where to set up food/drinks. The best part of the ballroom is the "hidden" entrance. It was fun for our bridal party and us to sneak in during our introductions. We had so much fun with this feature. My other favorite part is the dance floor! And wow, did our guests love it too. The Art Center is a dream reception hall and every person there was amazing to work with.

  • Crown Florals - These people are the best in the business. They not only did all of our floral pieces, but they also did all of the decor for the reception. When I went in with my original idea of soft pink and gold, I got to play around with some of the looks. I wasn't completely "sold" on the color scheme. So, Michelle had me come back again and just play around with colors to figure out exactly what I wanted. I ended up with some sparkle, hot pink, and deep purple. If you know me, this is ME. I loved that I got to see my reception vision in person long before our wedding day so I could make adjustments as needed to get exactly the look I wanted. When I finally got to see it all put together with the candles lit, it took my breath away. It was everything I had dreamed of since I was a little girl right in front of me.

  • Premier Productions - We worked with Mike from Premier. I loved meeting with him and discussing our dream wedding multiple times before the big day. Premier has everything down to a "science". They know exactly what they're doing and have it timed perfectly. Our reception ran smoothly and was so much fun. Mike knows how to get your guests up off their feet and to the dance floor. Our guests had so much fun we actually had to pay him to stay an extra hour! He really was the finishing touch that was able to pull our entire reception together.

  • Theo's Restaurant - Theo's catered the exact kind of food I was hoping to have for our wedding. I am not a "fancy" type of food girl. I wanted food at our reception people would actually enjoy. We got to go to their restaurant in Cambridge, OH and taste all kinds of food. This was important to us because we wanted to like the food as well. We also had an idea of what our guests would enjoy. So, this taste testing made it a weight off of our shoulders. We also got to try food we probably wouldn't have chosen. For instance, I do not like stuffing but was told the stuffing stuffed chicken was a top choice. I would have never picked this if I hadn't tasted it. We went with ham, chicken, green beans, baby potatoes, and rolls. Wendy packaged everything that was left so our familie could eat it later. It was nice to know we didn't waste any money on food that was leftover! Something unique to Theo's is that they offer the bride and groom a special meal of their own to take with them after the reception. They know how busy the day is and that often times brides and grooms don't get to eat. So they made special to-go boxes just for us that we enjoyed once we got to our hotel room which we devoured! Our cocktail hour was more of an appetizer hour with fruit, vegetables, and cheese with crackers. Our guests enjoyed this before the reception got started. My favorite part of Theo's is their presentation of the food. It exceeded any and all expectations I could have ever had. I sent Wendy an email of the colors I chose and how our reception would have some glam. They brought the most beautiful and elegant decorations to make their food tables look beautiful. There wasn't an inch of the tables that didn't match our reception theme. I couldn't have asked for nicer people, better food, or a prettier presentation.

  • Village Cakery - I am a big fan of wedding cake. I look forward to it more than the food at receptions. I was so excited for our taste testing. We tasted all kinds of flavors, but we ended up going with the traditional chocolate and vanilla. I really had no idea what I wanted as far as the style of the cake. Cindy was very helpful and worked with me as I went through countless Pinterest pictures. We ended up finding something that fit our reception perfectly - elegant with some sparkle. The piping was so beautiful. Cindy suggested for the sparkle that we add a wedding belt with some bling to it. This added such a beautiful touch! We also added some live flowers to the different tiers and the top. We were afraid the cake wouldn't be enough for our guests, so we added on cupcakes too. We didn't have much left! That is how you know it is delicious. The best part of the wedding cake was how delicious our top tier was a year later on our anniversary! I was shocked a cake could taste that good after being frozen for a year.

  • Tonya Winebrenner Makeup - If you need someone to make you the most beautiful version of yourself, Tonya is your girl. I don't really know makeup terminology, let alone bridal makeup. Tonya somehow took my poor explanation of what I wanted to look like and exceeded any of my expectations. I wanted to look glamorous, but I also wanted my natural beauty to be evident. My makeup honestly looked as perfect as it did at the end of my reception as it did the minute she put it on. She was extremely professional, and my mom and me looked flawless (not to toot my own horn, of course!).

  • Janet Parsons - Janet has been my hairdresser for as long as I can remember. I knew I couldn't get married without her fixing me up. Again, she took my poor explanation of what I wanted and just worked her magic. I showed her a few Pinterest pictures and said I wanted something similar, and she fixed me right up. Janet has a heart of gold and always makes everyone feel beautiful.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?

My favorite memory of our wedding day is when the doors opened up in the church, and I saw Ryan for the first time standing at the altar. It was such an overwhelming feeling. After knowing Ryan for one month, I knew I wanted to marry him. Three and a half years later that dream came true. To see him smiling back at me was just a flood of emotions. I was so excited this day was finally here and that all of our closest friends and family members were there to witness our marriage. Every step closer to him eased my nervousness and filled me more with joy.

Any last bits of advice?

Don't sweat the small stuff. When centerpiece arrangements seem stressful, seating charts feel impossible, and music selections seem overwhelming, remember exactly how much you couldn't wait for this day to come. None of that should overcome the joy of marrying your best friend. Most importantly, remember to enjoy your day. Try to remember it as much as possible and take your time to enjoy each moment.

How did you meet?

Chad and I have gone to church with each other our whole lives! It is not often that someone can say that they have known their soulmate forever. Our church family claims that before we even showed interest in each other that they were praying we would end up together. In fact, we even had Sunday morning services at the Art Center twenty years ago while our church was being built, making the venue even more special.

Tell us about the proposal…

Chad took me on a surprise trip to Pittsburgh a couple of days before Christmas. I thought we were just going shopping, but I had no idea he had asked my dad the night before for permission to marry me. We spent our day ice skating at PPG Arena, enjoyed a coffee while exploring the shops at downtown Pittsburgh, and then ended the day on the top of Mount Washington where Chad proposed. It truly was a magical day and I was beyond excited coming off the mountain knowing I was going to marry my best friend. A random girl was kind enough to videotape and photograph the engagement. It’s such a sweet memory I can now watch over and over again.

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?

I didn’t really have a theme or a vision for the day, I just wanted something classy and elegant. Chad is a huge WVU fan so he wanted blue and gold incorporated into the color scheme. I made the main color burgundy, the guys wore navy tuxes, and we had a lot of gold accents. The reception was everything I envisioned and so much more!

What made you choose the Art Center as your venue?

I have had several friends get married at the Art Center and I have always been in love with the beauty of the ballroom. I knew from the beginning that the Art Center was going to be our venue, until Lyndsay told us the only fall date she had available was November 16th. Before we met with Lyndsay, I told Chad that we can go look, but there is no way I am going to be a November bride, it is way too cold! We both instantly fell in love with the venue and knew that November 16th must be the date for us. Lyndsay and the Art Center itself won us over and I contacted her the next day to reserve the date.

What other vendors did you choose and can you tell us a little about your experiences?

Elizabeth Michaels was the main vendor as they did my dress/veil, all the bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride dress, and all of the jewelry and accessories! I may be a little partial to the business, but Kristina Davis and Donna McKinniss are beyond wonderful. If you need a wedding gown I would highly recommend Elizabeth Michaels. Their service is top notch and truly helped make my day perfect. The seamstress, Chris Conrad, is also phenomenal!!

Hornor and Harrison did all of the tuxes and they were great as well. We had some out of town groomsmen, and surprisingly everything fit just right! Stephanie and Michael were quick to get any replacement pieces in we needed.

Chris from Two Peas in a Pod florist did a wonderful job on my bouquet and Chad’s boutonnière. My bouquet was everything I wanted with lots of ivory colored flowers and greenery!

Morgan Trippett and Rachelle Satow from Studio Luxe did hair and makeup,

and they made my “wedding look” come to life. They even came to our room at the Blennerhassett Hotel to style myself and all my bridesmaids.

I also have an endless amount of friends and family that put so much work into making our wedding day everything we could ever hope for. We could never thank them enough! I never realized how many people it takes to make a wedding come together.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?

My favorite memory of the wedding day was when the church doors opened and I saw Chad waiting at the end of the aisle for me. We did a first look before the ceremony, and I swore I was not going to cry, but I just couldn’t hold back the tears...so I ugly cried down the aisle.

Any last bits of advice?

My biggest piece of advice is to enjoy every minute of the day because it goes by way too quick. There were so many people I didn’t get to talk to or dance with, but at the end of the day I soaked up all the special moments I got with my husband. We didn’t stress about anything that day, just simply enjoyed our time together.

Also, save yourself some time/stress and rent your table linens! No matter how much cheaper it is to buy them, renting them is still worth every penny. Lyndsay was kind enough to allow us to use her office to steam all 40 table linens the Wednesday before. That was a rough day, and I’m honestly not sure how my mom and I got it all done. We did get a couple of items from Grants Rental, and they were super easy to work with.

Walk in.jpg

How did you meet?
My cousin introduced us.  The first time we met was at the Powerline ATV trail in Ohio.

Tell us about the proposal…
I opened all of my gifts on Christmas morning 2017……or so I thought.  Tyler said there was one more and when I came in to get it, he was down on one knee.

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?
As charming as I think the country, rustic theme is, I have always thought of my day as being traditional and elegant.  Something with a Country Club feel, but somewhere more unique.

What made you choose the Art Center as your venue?
The Art Center was the first and last place we visited while trying to choose a location for the reception.  The ballroom is gorgeous!  It is also a perfect location with several nearby churches and hotels.  It really is a hidden gem.

What other vendors did you choose and can you tell us a little about your experiences?

The Village Cakery – Cindy’s cakes are delicious and beautiful.

Makeup by Meridith – Loved the makeup!  Everyone looked awesome.

Chelsea from The Hair Hippie – Everyone’s hair looked amazing and held all day (and night).

Michelle Waters Photography – Michelle is so much fun to work with and we love our pictures.

Crown Florals – The flowers were gorgeous – they looked better than I could’ve envisioned and Michelle we great to work with..

Premier Productions – Mike was great.  He was very easy to work with and we had an awesome time.  Especially ending the night with Country Roads!

Valley Catering – Terri Page and her staff are amazing.  They go above and beyond and when she says there’s nothing to worry about, she is right.  The food was fabulous – we are still getting comments.  Also, she provides the dinnerware/silverware – with most others, you would need to rent.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?
I don’t really have one favorite memory.  My father made it down the aisle without becoming an emotional wreck, the food was fabulous, the flowers were gorgeous, the venue was beautiful, the weather was perfect and all of our family and friends were with us to celebrate.  It was a perfect day.

Any last bits of advice?
Listen to Lyndsay and rent!  There are some things I would recommend buying just because of the limitations in color options (napkins, chair sashes and some tablecloths).  White tablecloths and chair covers as well as glassware – I would recommend renting.  Not only do you save yourself a lot of time ironing and transporting, you don’t have to store it!  Anyone need 170 plum chair sashes and napkins. J

Also, the time will fly by.  Think about photos you would like to have beforehand and plan ahead.  There is a wall of frames and mirrors that is great for a “photo booth”. We also wish we had taken pictures or requested pictures of the food – both the cocktail hour and dinner buffets.  It was all very beautiful.

Jessica and Randy got married on July 22, 2017 and from the moment I met them, you could tell they were soul mates. Getting to know all of the couples that come through is so much fun and it was a pleasure working with them. We have stayed connected on social media and I have watched their love grow and their family expand as they now have a handsome baby boy!

 Here’s more from Jessica:

How did you meet?
Randy & I met through mutual friends in 2006. We went to rival high schools.

 Tell us about the proposal…
Randy planned the sweetest surprise proposal .. he had my friends get me to a park near our house in Marietta. He had the park completely decorated with ribbon, rose petals & large frames with our pictures. He was waiting for me on the bridge. I sobbed the entire walk to the bridge. It was truly a fairy tale proposal.

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?
I loved the rustic look from weddings I had been to in the past. That helped me narrow my Pinterest search.

What made you choose the Art Center as your venue?
I love the space the ballroom has. It is a beautiful space & the walls didn’t need covered up. I also love that you can bring in a caterer of your choice.

What other vendors did you choose and can you tell us a little about your experiences?
Church: First Presbyterian Church Parkersburg

Venue: Parkersburg Art Center

Vocals: BreAnne Nixon

Caterer: Cheerful Heart Catering Charleston

Cupcakes: Sweet Stop

Florist: Two Peas In a Pod

Cookies: Ruth Cramer(my mom)

Makeup: Abby Gedon

Hair: Bre Turner & Chelsea Holtz - The Hair Hippie

DJ: Mike Bishman - premier productions

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?
Dancing with my husband for the first time and looking out to everyone watching us. It was so surreal. It was a moment I’ll never forget!!

 Any last bits of advice?
My biggest advice to brides is to make it a point be “present” throughout day. Take in every moment and truly be in each moment. Put your phone down & make memories that will last a lifetime. Make sure you delegate duties beforehand so you can do this!! I made schedules for the day for everyone who was involved on my wedding day..(coordinator, DJ, photographer, maid of honor, best man, etc.) it really helped things stay on time!

Christie and Dave got married on February 24, 2018

One of the best things about my job is the people I get to meet and the way I get to watch an event come together. This couple, from the moment I met them, stole my heart. It was such a pleasure working with them and seeing the love and care they put into every detail of their big day.

How did you meet?

We met through mutual friends. Our friends had both told us about one another briefly. I had just got out of a bad relationship when they mentioned him to me at the time and that was it. I was getting ready to delete my Facebook at the time and on Superbowl Sunday 2016 he sent me a message stating he was the one they had mentioned. Like anyone else I went through his Facebook to see if I wanted to talk to him. Of course, I did and I am so glad I did. We have been together ever since. I not only got him I also gained his two beautiful daughters as well making us a family of six.

Tell us about the proposal…

I had talked about being married and he would always change the subject like any guy. August of 2017, he had a trip planned to Jamaica. All of the family knew he was planning on asking me in Jamaica and at our daughters 16th birthday in April he showed the ring which was in my car under the tire in the trunk. Who would have known? August finally came and we were off to Jamaica. I had never been out of states and it was absolutely amazing.  We arrive at the resort where we stayed for an entire week. Being there was absolutely breathtaking. We did so many things while there snorkeling, watched shows on the beach, dancing, you name it we did it. On day two of being there we went to show and they had asked people to come up so he kept trying to get me to go up on stage and I wouldn't do it. We finish the show then walked out on the deck and all you could hear is people yelling you couldn't hear yourself let anyone else. We continued to walk then ended up sitting on end of dock and talking. Then we went up to our room and sat out of the balcony overlooking the water while I ate some sour patch kids. While I continued to eat them dropping them everywhere Dave got up and came around and kneeled down thinking he was picking up my sour patch kids I had dropped and I look up and he says "Will you" I said are you serious not even realizing he had a ring, I then realized it really is happening. I of course said YES!

What inspired the vision you had for your big day?

I had always wanted a fairy tale wedding and knew one day it would happen.

What made you choose the Art Center as your venue?

We had gone to several places and looked at other venues nothing jumped out to me until we came there. I knew that was the place. Absolutely beautiful and everything I wanted. Adding to why I chose PAC was because of Lyndsay. She met with me numerous times on how I wanted things to go and made them happen. If I had a question, I called and she answered it or found a way to do it. My wedding was definitely hectic and with all her help and going above and beyond she made sure my day was about me not anyone else. I'm sure she was ready for me to be done and married afterwards. So, I greatly appreciate everything she did. I would recommend anyone to her and most definitely let her be the planner.

What other vendors did you choose and can you tell us a little about your experiences?

We used Craig Robert's for our DJ. We met with him and everything we wanted he could do and he was definitely worth it all. We also used Alicia Sunderman for our Wedding Cakes. I had always used her and I could tell her what I want and she makes it happen. She was definitely reasonable with the cost on what we wanted to spend.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?

My husband would say my son's speech. We had no idea he was even doing a speech until he took the mic. Needless to say, he had everyone in tears afterwards. My favorite memory is taking his last name, and my son walking me down the aisle.

Any last bits of advice?

Marriage does not happen overnight. It takes time and to make it work you will go through good and bad times. Be patient, kind, and always be there for them no matter what may come or happen.
